What Is A Vision/Dream Board?

Updated: Apr 4, 2022

Dream Board

Take the time to decide what you really want for your life. Sit down and get a journal and write down what inspires you. List what your aspirations are. People across the world have used vision boards to help them be, have or do whatever they want in life. The concept derives from the practice of visualization – the art of creating a clear, colorful, and compelling picture in your mind of exactly what it is that you want. However, instead of being a mental picture, a vision board is a physical picture. Pin up pictures onto a corkboard and put this where you can see it every day. These pictures represent your goals.

The above is one way of manifesting your dreams. In today's world you can also create vision boards through the following ways:

  • Phone screenshot of your vision board

  • Computer screenshot of your vision board

  • Inspirational slideshow to play daily using photos

  • Getting a picture frame and framing the photos of your goals so it looks pleasing to the eye. If you are visual this will help inspire you.

  • Posting all your pictures on the fridge door.

  • Making a frame with your pictures around your bathroom mirror.

  • Making a photo book of your pictures.

Don’t limit yourself! If you dream of a trip to Paris or winning the lottery put that in your vision board. Start to collect pictures from magazines and online or anywhere else you can think of. Thrift stores are a perfect place to get your magazines at below cost. You might start by collecting pictures of the places you want to visit, the experiences you want to have, what you want to eat etc. - whatever is important to you. What goals do you want to achieve? What is on your bucket list? Find pictures of all of these and add them to your vision board.

You may choose to create one board to remind you of all of these areas of your life. Your board may have pictures of where you want to travel, what job you would like to have, the amount of money you would like to earn, the kind of house you would like to live in and so on.

HOW CAN THEY HELP YOU ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS?

Your vision board will help you achieve your goals by helping you to visualize what you want. Stream line the images to make it easy and stress free to visualize your goals. This will send the message to your subconscious mind. It will also motivate you to take action to achieve your goals.

HOW TO VISION BOARD IT:

STEP 1

Before you start clipping images and words, you need to define what you want for your life and the goals you want to accomplish. Believe it or not, many people have no idea what they want for their life thus they go through the motions of life without a purpose.

Take time to answer the following questions:

  • What do I want my life to look like a year from today?

  • What goals do I want to accomplish and why?

  • What makes me internally happy?

  • What do I want for my life?

STEP 2

Now that you have identified what you want, it’s time to have fun. Grab some magazines and start cutting out pictures and words that match the goals you want to achieve. Think about what you want to attract in your life and the goals you want to see become your reality. Here are the materials you’ll need to get started:

  • A picture frame, or a canvas board, or poster board, or a corkboard, or even a journal with blank pages

  • glue or tape, scissors, markers

  • magazines, photos of you.

These are just a few things but you can be as creative as you want and just have fun with it.

STEP 3

Once your vision board is complete then you want to jot down the action steps you’re going to take in order to achieve what’s on your board. Last year, in addition to creating a vision board, I also created a goal list and wrote down everything I wanted to achieve and what I needed to do to make it happen.

STEP 4

You’ve thought about what you want to accomplish, you’ve created your vision board, and you’ve written down your action steps. Now you have to BELIEVE that you can have what’s on your board. Belief is everything. If you created the board just for fun and you don’t believe that you can really have what’s on your board then it’s not going to work. You can have whatever it is on your vision board as long as you’re PUTTING IN THE WORK.

STEP 5

Your board needs to be visible everywhere you go. Post your vision board in a place where you have no choice but to see it every day.

STEP 6

When you accomplish something on your board be sure to check it off. When we’re so busy working, we sometimes forget to celebrate our small wins. Get you a cool colored pen or fun stickers and mark off your goals as you complete them. You’ll be surprised at how much you start checking off. Vision boards don’t just magically come to life. You have to be intentional about doing the work. You have to be consistent and disciplined and I can guarantee that this time next year you will have reached the goals you set for yourself.
